At Valor & Virtue Martial Arts Academy LLC, we believe that true strength is demonstrated through service to others. Our community events are designed to instill our core values—Honor, Integrity, Discipline, Duty, Commitment, Sacrifice, and Justice—while making a positive impact in Marana and Tucson.
When students give to their community by participating in our community events, they embody Honor and Integrity–these events require individuals to act selflessly, upholding their commitments and demonstrating moral principles. By contributing to causes such as fighting hunger or supporting children's health, students learn the importance of standing up for what is right and maintaining ethical standards.
Engaging in physically demanding challenges allows students to grow in Sacrifice and Justice. Enduring hardship in memory or tribute teaches the value of selflessness and the importance of honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. It instills a sense of duty to uphold justice and contribute to the greater good.
Our events also strengthen family bonds. When families come together to participate in our community events, they create shared memories and deepen their connections. Working side by side toward a common goal fosters teamwork, communication, and mutual support, reinforcing the importance of family unity.
Through these experiences, students develop a deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to making a positive difference in their community. It helps them understand the value of good health and the ability to endure challenges. These experiences foster a sense of gratitude, teaching students to be thankful for their physical capabilities and the opportunities they have to give back. They learn that true strength lies not only in physical prowess but also in the ability to uplift and support others.
Moreover, these experiences shape our students' futures. The lessons learned through community involvement influence how they will raise their own children, emphasizing the importance of giving back and teaching future generations the value of service. By participating in these events, students not only make a difference in their community but also build a foundation for a lifetime of compassion and civic responsibility.
Pledge-A-Thon
Every Fall, the Valor & Virtue Martial Arts Academy LLC puts on a food drive in coordination with the Marana Food Bank and Community Resource Center in an effort to fight hunger in Tucson. Students, family members, and friends of the dojo bring in food items that get donated to the Food Bank. These donated items become ‘Pledges’, which the dojo then works off in a group workout, very much in the same way a jog-a-thon is run. In the Fall of 2025, our dojo raised over 1000 pounds worth of food items, which equaled a combined total of approximately 30,000 repetitions of exercises such as pullups, situps, squats, and running.
This took a group of 40 people made up of students and family members close to four hours to complete, but it is through this self-sacrifice and giving that we learn to appreciate what we have, and not take things like food for granted. Learn more about our Pledge-A-Thon Here
Memorial Day Murph
The Valor & Virtue Martial Arts Academy LLC believes it is important to remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This is why every year, the dojo participates in the Memorial Day Murph Challenge. The Murph Challenge is the official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. It is also one of the primary means of funding for the Foundation on an annual basis. By participating in this event as a dojo, we not only help support the Foundation, but we help instill in others a strong sense of gratitude and respect for the sacrifices that people make in the service to our country.
Our children are our future, and we want them to grow up know that making sacrifices is part of life, and that we can never forget those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Learn more about Memorial Day Murph Here
